Unseen

Job security isn’t something Addison is all that concerned with.
Death, however? Yeah, death is a major concern.

After Addison finds a nearly-dusted vampire in the garbage outside her building, her ability to stay off the paranormal radar is deader than the vamp. Almost as dead as she’ll be if anyone thinks she put him there. Even though she’s basically shoving a stake into her own chest, she has no other choice but to get him indoors before he dusts in front of a human. And just when she thinks life couldn’t possibly get any worse, she finds out who he is.

As vampire king and Prime to all races of supernatural beings in this zone, Rhyse gets what he wants when he wants it. But after being ambushed, he wakes up chained to a bed with a hole in his chest and, unfortunately, he needs help to discover who tried to kill him. His only ally is his captor, someone unaware she has the power to bring down their entire world.

While a prophesized war brews in the Heights, Addison and Rhyse must decide which carries more risk—trusting someone who could destroy you or trusting someone who could love you?
* * *
The Heights not only protects the secrecy of vampires, shifters, demons, angels, and other supernaturals, it protects the humans unaware of the world hidden within their own.

Brenda Novak's Auction for Juvenile Diabetes Research

Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but bestselling author, Brenda Novak and I have a lot of things in common. It's almost eerie, actually.

  • We both write romance
  • Both our birthdays are on May 15th
  • We live in the same geographical area and are in the same chapter of RWA
  • Both our sons have juvenile diabetes

Not too happy about that last one though. Every year Brenda has an auction that raises an enormous amount of money for juvenile diabetes research. She has everything on there for readers, writers, and even normal people. ;) Honestly, you have to see the amazing things on there–a coffee date with Nalini Singh or lunch with Diana Gabaldon! Are you kidding?

This year my local chapter of the Romance Writers of America donated a…

Kindle Fire HDX filled with TONS of romance novels and mysteries written by members of the chapter.

Plus, two $25 Amazon gift certificates.

While the auction runs for the entire month of May, this Kindle Fire is only going to be available for bidding on May 15th. Yep, my and Brenda's birthday. Check out the other listings now and set up your account, “watch” this item, and then bid on May 15th.

Brenda thanks you, I thank you, and our boys thank you.

Kindle Fire HDX with 34 novels & two $25 gift certs!

Unseen Cover large

After Addison finds a nearly-dusted vampire in the garbage outside her building, her ability to stay off the supernatural world’s radar is deader than the vamp. Almost as dead as she’ll be if anyone thinks she put him there. Should she finish the job somebody else screwed up or move him somewhere humans won’t find him? In an effort to keep the Heights hidden, she may have just shoved a stake into her own chest. And when she thinks life couldn’t possibly get any more dangerous, she finds out who he is.

As vampire king and Prime to all races of supernatural beings in the North American zone, Rhyse is accustomed to getting what he wants without asking. But he neither wanted nor asked to be wounded in an ambush, waking up chained to a bed with a hole in his chest. Unfortunately, he needs help to discover who tried to kill him. But worse than that, his only ally is his captor, someone unaware she has the power to destroy their entire world.

As a prophesized war brews in the Heights, Addison and Rhyse must decide which carries more risk—trusting someone who could destroy you or trusting someone who could love you?

This series has something for everyone—vampires, werewolves, demons, angels, witches, humans, and a bunch of others, all living in the Heights, a world intertwined with, but hidden from, our own. And if you think our world is dangerous, you better buckle up. The ride's about to begin.

Excerpt:

Addison stumbled back until her ass hit the counter. It was over. It had been over ever since those chains came off. Ever since she brought him into her apartment. Into her life.

“I saved you, Rhyse. I could’ve left you outside until the sun came up.”

“I imagine you wish you had.”

“Can you…can you not kill me? Just take some, but not all?”

Rhyse brushed her hair behind her shoulder and curled his fingers around the nape of her neck, whispering, “Do you trust me that much?”

“I don’t even trust you a little.” She felt the sting of tears. “I don’t want to be turned. If you drain me, let me die.”

He ran his other hand up her shoulder, to her throat and slowly closed his fingers around it. One move and her neck would break. “To drain you I would have to drink from you. And that, my pet, I will not do.”

She didn’t know what he meant but now seemed like a bad time to argue.

“Did you know what you are? How many of you exist?”

She didn’t answer. Partially because speaking required the air he was cutting off. Then his hands were gone, just like the rest of him.

Was it over?

When one of the women behind the counter moaned, Addison went to make sure they were alright.

Rhyse was on top of one of them, his fangs obviously burrowed in her neck. The woman moaned again, her legs wrapping around him. One hand clutched his shoulder and the other slapped the wall, searching for a hold.

It had to have been shock that made it impossible to look away. Or run away. The woman’s moans got louder then crested, and her body went limp. Not in a dead way, but in an I-just-had-the-best-orgasm-of-my-life way.

Get out of here!

“Leave and they will die.” His voice stopped her after only two steps. “Stay and they will wake up from a very pleasant, very erotic dream.”

She grinded her teeth when she heard another moan. He must have moved on to the other woman. With two to feed from, there was less of a chance he would drain them, but… “Why should I trust you?”

The woman’s moans stopped and she whined, “No.”

“I do not care if you trust me,” he said. “Only that you obey me.”

“Fuck you.” But she didn’t move. “Are they alive?”

“Of course. It is against the law to kill humans.”

“Then let me go.”

“You are not human, Addison.” His voice came from just over her shoulder.

“I am. I promise. Totally human.” Somehow he’d missed the fact that seers were human, despite her telling him at least five times.

She heard the shuffling of fabric and looked down to see him wrapping his already-bloody shirt around the arm she’d cut. He tied a knot with the sleeves and pulled it tight. There was no part of this that she understood.

She sucked in a breath when he put his hands on her hipbones. Then another as they slid to her belly and down, pressing her back into him. She felt his heat and a vibration on her back as he made a sound similar to a cat’s purr but scarier. Clenching her eyes shut, she waited for death.

“You should thank them.” His voice was all sex. Dangerous, risky, awesome sex. “They just saved your life.”

They did? “Thank you,” she called out with a shaking voice. “Now that your belly’s full, how about you back off a little?”

“I should kill you, Addison.”

“I’m going to have to disagree with you about that.”

After a moment he stepped away, sighing as if he just made a really tough decision and wasn’t sure it was the right one.

“So,” she said, heading for the door, “it seems like you’re feeling better which is great. I’m really happy for you. Since you don’t need me anymore, I’m gonna go now. See you around.”

“Come to me, Addison.” His eyes were back to their original inhumanly beautiful color. Though he didn’t quite look calm, he looked satisfied.

“No.”

“Come to me or I will snap your neck.”

“Okay.”

“If you had simply brought a human to me, this all could have been avoided.”

“I was just thinking the same thing.” Total lie—she wasn’t thinking a goddamn thing besides, “Shiiiiit!”

“You and I have things to discuss, and a few memories to alter along the way back to your home.”

Damn it on many counts. “Alter or wipe?”

“Alter, of course. Although my strength has returned, wiping that many minds would still be highly taxing. I prefer to save my power for other activities.”

Like…? Nah, she didn’t want to know.

He opened the door and gestured for her to go first. Something he’d probably never done before. Minions opened doors for him and she doubted chivalry ranked high on his list of valuable traits. But she went because when you gotta go, you gotta go.

“Did you know?” he asked.

What was it with that question? “Know what? That your victims come while you feed? Yeah, I heard it happens occasionally.”

“Always. They always come while I feed. If it were possible, I would show you.”

“I just heard more proof than I wanted to, thanks.”

“But it would be far more enjoyable to feel you come than to hear her do it.”

What's up with me? The March Edition

Unfortunately, the first two months of 2014 didn't go anything like I wanted them to. Therefore, since I don't have the power to call a universal ‘do-over' of January and February, I'm calling an official “They didn't count” and declaring yesterday the first day of my 2014.

Which means that, so far, this year has been incredible! In only two days, I have…

  • Sent off the first book in The Heights series (UF/PNR) to one of my fantastic critique partners who will rip it apart and hand it back to me in shreds that I will have to, somehow, piece back together. Isn't she the best? :)
  • Changed the name of the project four times. It is currently “Unseen“. I'm really digging the new title and have been told by numerous people to stop obsessing about it and start obsessing about something else. (It's important to have good advisers around you who will call you on your insanity, by the way.)
  • Released the complete box set of Hyde onto Amazon, B&N, iBooks, and Smashwords. It's only $7.99 right now! I think that comes down to around .0065 cents per page.
  • Released the audiobook version of No Experience Required. It was a great learning experience that created a wonderful end product thanks to my hysterical narrator, Maya Tremblay. Thankfully, I didn't know what she looked like until the project was complete, so I only started hating her afterwards.
  • Am working on a cover for Unseen as well as a concept for the entire series (currently planned out for six books with a very large possibility of there being more).
  • Had a cover made for a short story I'll be releasing for charity (just as soon as I stop obsessing about the ending) called Friends with Benefits. It's a beautiful cover done by Eliana of For the Muse Design.
  • Had a cover made for Darker Water, the first book in my contemporary romance series. It's soooo nice. Poor, incredibly patient Amanda of Pixel Mischief Design has first-hand knowledge of my insanity and, bless her heart, figured out a way to deal with it.
  • Am working on a cover for the second Summer Rains book, For Entertainment Purposes Only. This one was made by the Victorine Lieske who did the current cover for No Experience Required, as well as being a bestselling author and mother to way too many children.
  • Am editing Darker Water. I can't wait for you to meet Carson. IMO, he has the perfect bad-boy to heart-of-gold ratio.
  • Checked out an online writer's convention called IndieReCon and learned some great tips on how to be professional. I'm going to need a lot more work with that. I also learned a lot from other presenters, including that I really want to have a few drinks with these three. Seriously, they are like me but with testosterone (and a few other parts too, probably).
  • Did some of that…what's it called? Parenting? Yeah well, I did some of that, I guess. And probably did some other stuff too. Nothing too crazy like cleaning or cooking, but I'm pretty sure there was other stuff.

Even though this list shows only a fraction of what is going on for me this year (I didn't even mention the Fox/Landon book), I'm very happy to say that, thus far, every single day has been amazingly productive. I have my fingers crossed that they will continue to be this way. As always, my goal is to write as much as humanly possible, which means I will release as much as humanly possible. Sign up for my newsletter on the sidebar and all that crap, so you'll hear just as soon as I hit the publish button.

Strange Case in print & the series box set

I have a couple pieces of news to mention today. I'll be posting info about my upcoming projects really soon. Yep, projects plural. And I'm infatuated with all of them.

First and finally, Strange Case‘s print version is now available on Amazon. Thank you for your patience with it everyone. I think it was worth it. Some of you have requested signed copies. I'm working to set up a paypal system for that and will let you know as soon as it's ready. Until then, if you're interested in a signed copy of Strange Case's print version or any of my others, please shoot me an email.

Second…

The Complete Hyde Series Box Set
The Complete Hyde Series Box Set

The Complete Hyde Series Box Set is now available on Amazon, Smashwords, and is coming soon to Sony, Kobo, B&N, and iTunes. If you use any of those retailers and notice it's up on their sites, please drop me a note and let me know. Otherwise I have to keep pushing my ‘refresh' button all day and that's so annoying.

The box set is only $7.99 which saves you a buck (or two if you're a Nook user). Well worth it for over 1,200 pages of book, don't you think?

Please help me spread the word and, if you possibly can, leave reviews for any/all of the books.  Also, sign up for my newsletter. It is the quickest way for me to let you know about new releases or share deleted scenes and sneak peeks.

Thank you for your support, kindness, and letting me know there are a lot more of my-kind-of-people than I ever imagined there could be in the world.
